Police boss is very embarrassed right now, here's why

Image
Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, can’t conceal the egg on his face any longer. The spate of kidnapping of police officers has sorely embarrassed Idris; more so because the police should ideally be the one watching over folks and stopping kidnappers from abducting anyone. A Divisional Police Officer (DPO) who was abducted in Niger State earlier in the week, only just secured his release. Aliyu Amos is a Superintendent of Police and DPO of Sarki Pawa Divisional Headquarters in Niger State. The police top brass says Amos was rescued alongside four others, by Special Forces. That means no ransom exchanged hands between the abductors and the police institution, according to police spokesperson Jimoh Moshood. But not everyone is always this fortunate. Amos’ abduction brings to the fore the vulnerability of police officers in Nigeria. Some are attacked and killed in the line of duty when not abducted. A handful never make it out of the kidnappers’ den. "Our officers

Full story of the 'pension thief' who served in Buhari's government

Image
Burly, imposing and dark complexioned, Abdulrasheed Maina has a reputation for being light and heavy fingered all at once. In 2013, Maina was Chairman of the Presidential Task Team on Pension Reforms (PTTPR) when he was accused of theft to the tune of N2B in the office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation. Maina was subsequently dismissed by the Federal Civil Service Commission following recommendation by the Office of the Head of Service. Fugitive According to the allegation lodged by the senate at the time, Maina had defrauded civil servants of their pensions and had diverted pension funds totaling N2B into his personal bank accounts. Soon after the senate issued an arrest warrant for Maina, the man allegedly fled to Saudi Arabia to evade law enforcement back home. In July of 2015, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charged Maina alongside a former Head of Service, Steve Oronsaye, Osarenkhoe Afe and Fredrick Hamilton B Global Services Limited bef

7 unusual cultures around the world

Image
Many weird cultures happen around the world. From baby throwing to living with dead bodies, below is a list of jaw-dropping cultures from around the globe. 1. Walking Dead The Toraja people of Indonesia practice this absurd culture of putting a body in a temporary coffin before resurrecting 'it'. In villages located in the mountains of South Sulawesi, Indonesia, Shamans have been raising the dead for centuries. According to the religious beliefs of the Toraja people, in order for a deceased person to reach the afterlife known as “Puya” or “The Land of Souls”, their corpse must be returned to the place of their birth for burial. The corpse is raised from the dead and walks to its new resting place. 2. El Colacho Baby Jumping The residents of Spain have been taking part in this dangerous and weird culture called El Colacho since 1620. El Colacho means baby jumping and is organized to keep the Devils away. In this festival, infants are laid on the mattresses in the

Nnamdi Kanu has created two apps to push his agenda

Image
The self-proclaimed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu may have pulled a vanishing act on everyone in the last two weeks; the real story is in how the sentiment that he inspired is still strong, buoyed by smart moves like the Radio Biafra and Biafra TV apps. YES. IPOB got digital. There are Radio Biafra and Biafra TV apps in the Google Play Store. While Radio Biafra is a somewhat popular name, Biafra TV is described in the Store as a platform that “provides an interactive medium for promoting Biafran awareness”. RBL Management, a London-based shell company that has been traced to Nnamdi Kanu in the past, is credited as the developer of both apps. In 2012, Kanu gained national prominence with his vitriolic rants on Radio Biafra, an internet radio station that broadcast signals from his council flat in Peckham, bouncing waves off telecom masts in the East. The station gained a strong following among young and old in the East in little time. It was instrumental

What would become of TSTV with the launch of the Zimbabwean-owned payTV in Nigeria?

Image
Now that Kwese TV has launched in Nigeria, it would be interesting to see how TSTV’s fate plays out. Both payTV operators have made it flexible with their subscription plans, though price wise, TSTV has got upper hand. As for the pause for a period of time functionality, Kwese doesn’t seem to have that in their kitty. The Pause, record, rewind, fast forward (PVR) functionality  that DSTV boasts of as well does not presently feature on Kwese TV. But you do have the option of taking your viewing experience online using the Kwese apps downloadable from your Android and iOS. Kwese dishes and decoders are already available and as it should be done, they already have their dealers holding the devices across all the geo-political regions of Nigeria, something TSTV clearly has failed to achieve. Kwese is Zimbabwean owned alright, but if your service proposition is on point and meets the needs of Nigerians, they would openly accept you. TSTV is having too much suspicion around the
