Nigerian Railway Now Moves Containers From Apapa

The Nigerian Railway Corporation has embarked on mass transportation of containers from Apapa Port to ease the problem of vehicular gridlock in the area.

The NRC Lagos District Manager, Jerry Oche, said this on Thursday, adding that the operations were initiated to ease congestion of articulated vehicles along Apapa Port.

According to him, the containers are being moved to Ebute Metta area of Lagos and Ijoko, an outskirt of Ogun state.

He stated that the Nigeria Railway has the plan to extend the shuttle services to Kajola and Abeokuta axis until it is able to reduce traffic congestion to the barest minimum along Apapa axis.

The NRC Director of Operation, Mr Adeniyi Alli, further explained that the rail service was available for any organisation or individual, who wants to transport goods from the port to other parts of the country.
Due to congestion in Apapa, doing business has been hectic as workers now pick the day to show up in office.
The Federal Government had partnered with Dangote Groups to repair the damaged Apapa Road and due to construction going on there, the traffic had become unbearable.
The Minister of Power, Works and Housing Mr Babatunde Fashola once said that the traffic gridlock in Apapa was giving him a serious headache.
