POLICE OFFICERS TO HAVE THEIR OWN HOUSES SOON

Nigeria Police officers will have the opportunity to own their own houses before they retire from service. The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Training and Development, Mr. Emmanuel Inyang said this, adding that concrete arrangement had been made towards it. Inyang who said this at the opening of a one-week workshop on human rights organised for officers of Sokoto State Police Command added that the police had since collaborated with Federal Mortgage Bank, Nigeria Police Force Cooperative Society and private developers to make it a reality. “It is a collaboration between the three organisations and it will be implemented soon,” he said. In a statement signed by Abdulkadir Ibrahim, Media Focal Person of the Human Rights Training Programme, Inyang added that the houses would be provided on an owner-occupier basis. According to him, the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, is more concerned about the welfare and productivity of the police officers. T

B.SC, HND DICHOTOMY DIVIDES THE SENATE

The senate was thrown into heated argument on Thursday over the dichotomy between holders of university degree and Higher National Diploma. The argument came up when the bill to repeal Federal Roads Maintenance Agency Act 2017 and to Re-enact Federal Roads Authority Bill (FRA) 2017 was being debated. The bill recommends Bachelors of Science (B.Sc) degree or Higher National Diploma ( HND) certificate equivalent with COREN membership as compulsory qualification for headship of the proposed agency. But in a swift reaction to the bill, a lawmaker from PDP, Edo Central, Senator Clifford Ordia said that the recommendation had equated holder of B.Sc to HND, adding that such clause should be removed. His argument was quickly rebuffed by Senator Kabiru Marafa (APC, Zamfara Central) who argued that it would be discriminatory to accept his colleague’s plea. OSINBAJO EXCITED BY CROSS-RIVER INDUSTRIAL PARK

The Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has expressed his delight at the Cross River Industrial Park, saying it will soon grow to become one of the biggest business hubs in Africa. He said this during his working visit to the state, adding that the park would not only bring development closer to the residents of the state but would go a long way in the development of the country.
