Wizkid wins American songwriting award for Drake’s “One Dance”

A lot of global accolades keep being added to the Nigerian music industry; all thanks to our stars on the international music scene. In addition to all the good tidings we’ve heard in recent times, The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) have
awarded Wizkid for his contribution to the writing of “One Dance,” the hugely successful 2016 song by Canadian rapper, Aubrey ‘Drake’ Graham.

To announce the good news, Wizkid shared a picture of his plaque from ASCAP with the caption; “This came in last night! Big up my bro @champagnepapi for letting me work on this!! More Drake x Wizkid on the way.” The Starboy label boss was featured alongside Kayla on the record-breaking One Dance.

In addition to being one of the highest-selling songs of 2016, “One Dance” maintained its position atop the Billboard charts for ten good weeks and did the same for fifteen consecutive weeks on top of the UK charts. The song is also the most streamed song in the history of a music platform called “Spotify,” having over 880 million streams. It surpassed the previous record-holder, Lean On, which was a joint effort by Major Lazer and DJ Snake. Wizkid is an achiever!!!
