2face Idibia and M.I are planning the most incredible concert of their careers
- The short black boy is working with Innocent Idibia to deliver a concert that should leave fans breathless
It’s not the first time they’ll be collaborating. And that’s exactly why those who should know are suggesting that the forthcoming 2Baba + M.I Buckwyld ‘n’ Breathless concert will be record breaking.
2face Idibia, an accomplished singer-performer, and M.I. Abaga, a disruptive and distinguished rapper, are asking Nigerians to come out to the Eko Hotels and Suites on September 3, to enjoy an evening of rich pop music from their solo and joint projects, as well as from carefully selected colleagues.
On April 30, 2012, the nation was pleasantly surprised when 2face and his team gave concert-goers the show of their lives, in what went on to become one of the greatest pop concerts of this era.
In a country where live performances meant miming and lip-syncing, Idibia and his team rewrote the rules; opening up a new chapter in live shows. The upcoming September 3 concert, Thenetng analysts say, is expected to top the feat of 2012.
And it would appear Idibia, who has had a consistent and steady career since 1997, is working to consolidate his hold on the local music market, as international breaks continue to elude him – especially in the all-important US market.
He’s pushed out back-to-back releases in the past months, worked with his management company, Now Muzik to seal solid corporate partnerships, established his night club in Ikeja and FESTAC (both in Lagos), and opened his doors to every deserving collabo.
‘He’s solidifying his legacy’, an old friend tells us.
And it appears this concert, a big-budget one by Thenetng estimates, is one more way of showing the industry how it’s done.
M.I knows what fans want. He’s a good rapper, but also great with audience experience. When he now gets to work with a legend like 2face, you can imagine what the results would be’.
A 2face producer says both musicians write well and perform well. ‘And they understand what works for one another. It’s a rare chemistry no one can explain’
Some of Idibia and Abaga’s duets are, ‘Be There‘ (2010), ‘Nobody‘ (2010), ‘Human Being‘ (2014), and ‘Babylon‘ (2016). It is likely that a joint album is in the works.
For now, they’re hoping to deliver the most incredible concert of their careers on September 3. Tickets are available HERE
